<description>Hi this is an interesting post, I didn't get to hear the pope but I think its interesting that 'Freedom' occupies a fundamental space in World politics nowadays. Its association with Democracy's rhetorics is interesting in that it is probably the most fundamental and essential ground for the so called 'War against Terrorism'--at least as it is packaged to the world. And its interesting that Nietzsche's idea of the Power that be and its relation to the individual is extracted in how 'Freedom' is misinterpreted--or I wouldnt even say misinterpreted since I think what 'Freedom' is as a term as well as a condition is textured by human-affairs only rather than having any sense of appeal to spiritual belief as in God or whatever. I guess its a condition which Emmanuel Levinas consistently worked against in his writings while attempting to insert the importance of 'Ethics' as first philosophy and everything.

I think 'Freedom' as a term, condition and etc. has to be grounded always from the outset--something which the world and the Power that be assumes to be universal.
